Nurturing Young Minds In London

Welcome to Tiny Champs Nursery, your child’s first step into a world of learning and growth! Located in the heart of the leafy London borough of Waltham forest, near Wood Street Overground Station, our nursery is designed with the safety and development of your child in mind. With excellent outdoor facilities, secure access, and comprehensive CCTV coverage, we ensure a safe, nurturing environment that fosters learning and fun. Our purpose-built gardens and open plan rooms cater to children of all age groups, providing a perfect setting for their early years.

Baby Room (3 Months-15 Months)

In our Baby Room, we prioritise personalised care to mirror the home environment, ensuring your infant settles comfortably. With a staff-to-child ratio of 1:3, our qualified team provides ample support and interaction, helping your baby thrive. The room features four dynamic learning zones and a dual-purpose sensory area that serves as a cosy sleep environment. Regular nappy changes are conducted with nursery-provided supplies, ensuring your baby’s comfort and hygiene throughout the day.

Pre-toddlers (15 Months – 2 Years)

Our Pre-toddler Room accommodates up to 18 children daily, maintaining a 1:3 ratio to provide close supervision as your toddler takes their first steps. The spacious open plan room allows ample space for physical activities and explorative play. High-quality, age-appropriate activities across five learning zones encourage developmental milestones, while structured playtime fosters emerging social skills. After lunch, the toddlers rest in a snug setting facilitated by blackout blinds, recharging for more afternoon fun.

Toddler Room (2-3 Years)

The Toddler Room, hosting 16 children daily, continues with a favourable 1:4 ratio, supporting significant developmental transitions. Activities are tailored to enhance curriculum progress, focusing on structure, routine, and emotional and social development. Our dedicated staff supports toilet training with a child-friendly bathroom, ensuring comfort and promoting independence. Naptime areas with sleep mats provide a tranquil environment for midday rests, complementing an engaging and educational day.

Pre-School (3-5 Years)

Our Pre-School room, preparing 24 children for school daily, operates with a 1:8 ratio, encouraging greater independence in preparation for school. The room features four learning zones with activities designed to advance crucial skills such as listening, attention, and fine motor control necessary for writing. Independence is further encouraged through self-service during meals and independent hygiene management. Our skilled practitioners ensure each child is school-ready, focusing on phonics and physical skills essential for academic success.

Safety and Security

When you arrive at Tiny Champs, you will be able to gain access to our secure nursery via the main entrance. Families and visitors can only access the setting when a senior staff member releases the secure door entry system via the office, which is situated in the main entrance area. The nursery setting indoors, and outdoors is fully covered by CCTV and this allows managers to monitor the nursery throughout the day with ease.

Curriculum

At Tiny Champs Nursery we follow the Birth to Five Matters Framework. This is a government framework that guides the learning at our nursery and ensures that the children make effective progress throughout the first five years of their lives.

The Birth to Five Matters Framework covers seven areas of learning which are categorised as prime and specific areas.

The three prime areas are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language

The four specific areas are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive Arts and Design

More information about the Birth to Five Matters Framework can be found here Birthto5Matters-download.pdf

As your child settles in with us at nursery their key person will observe and monitor them to understand their current developmental level. Once they feel confident that they know your child, they will complete a settling in assessment that will guide them with the areas they need to support your child with within their development. This information then enables the key person to plan personalised activities for your child that will help them to make further progress.

Twice a year, your child’s key person will complete a new assessment to ensure that you have up to date information around your child’s development and to guide them on the next areas of development that your child needs support within.

As your child makes progress your key person will share observations and pictures with you via Blossom, to show the journey they are making to achieve the developmental goals that have been set by your key person.

Extra Curricular

At Tiny Champs we value the knowledge that extracurricular activities can provide to your children.  These activities support the children to build their confidence as they develop new skills and abilities.

On a Wednesday morning our pre-school and toddler children are visited by a local dance teacher who delivers an engaging and enriching dance session.

We also have a contract with Greenway Community Garden. On Monday mornings the children in our toddler and pre-school rooms take turns to visit our local community garden. The children enjoy participating in growing and caring for plants in the gardens dedicated growing area. After all that hard work they can then enjoy a play in the fun-filled activity area.

A Typical Day

A typical day at Tiny Champs Nursery begins with breakfast being served between 8-8:30am.

After breakfast, activity time begins, and the children can enjoy a range of activities both indoors and outdoors. These activities are planned by the children’s key people to ensure that they support them to make development through the curriculum.

During activity time children will also be taken on trips to places within the local area such as the Library, the Garden Centre, and local parks.

At 9:30am a fresh fruit-based snack is served, and the children can take turns to come and enjoy some delicious fruits.

Activity time continues throughout snack time to avoid unnecessary disruptions to the routine.

At 11:45am the children enjoy their two-course lunch. This is the main meal of the day and consists of a hot meal and a non-sweet, based pudding.

After lunch is rest time, our younger children will go down for a nap, whilst our older children enjoy some quiet time and participate in activities that enable them to rest and recharge ahead of their afternoon session.

After rest time the children engage in activity time once more.

At 3:30pm the children have tea. This is a lighter meal than what we have at lunchtime, but still consists of two courses.

After tea the children engage in free choice play. After all their hard work throughout the day they have truly earned to just have some fun.

At 5:45pm the children have a home time story and are offered a light snack to stop them feeling too hungry on their way home.

Water is offered to children throughout the day.

In line with supporting our families to get as much help as possible with the costs of childcare here is some useful information on the support that is available.

Tax Free Childcare:

You can get up to £500 every 3 months for each of your children. In order to receive Tax Free Childcare, you’ll need to set up an online childcare account for your child. For every £8 that you pay into this account the government will pay in £2 to use to pay your childcare provider.

You can get Tax Free Childcare at the same time as 15 or 30 hours of Government Funding if you’re eligible for both. More info can be found here Tax-Free Childcare – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Child Tax Credits:

Help is available through the childcare element of Universal Credit. If you are in receipt of Universal Credits, they will pay up to 85% of your childcare costs.

Childcare Vouchers:

For working parents’ childcare vouchers can prove an excellent way to spread and reduce the costs of childcare. At Tiny Champs Nursery we are currently registered with EDEN Red and Enjoy benefits, but we are always willing to join up to new schemes.
